Referencing

Everything you need to know about referencing, bibliographies, copyright and plagiarism

When referencing images from websites, your reference list needs to include:

  • Artist's name – surname followed by first initial (or alias)
  • year
  • title of image
  • description
  • name of website or authoring organisation
  • date retrieved
  • URL

Harvard referencing example:

Takver 2013, Banner and signs: refugee action protest 27 July 2013 Melbourne, photograph, retrieved 4 October 2014, <http://www.flickr.com/photos/takver/9377509606/>.

Important - all copyright images

Any image used in your assignment that are not your own work requires an in-text citation to the original source.

A caption should include:

  • artists name (or if not know, by title)
  • year

e.g. Takver (2013)
