Visual Art

Art has been an integral part of Indigenous culture for more than sixty-five thousand years. Building on holdings of rare nineteenth-century cultural objects and drawings, the NGV Indigenous collection charts the evolution of contemporary Indigenous art throughout all regions of Australia and across media.

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander art collection at the National Gallery of Australia comprises over 7500 works and is the largest in the world.
