Crochet

There are two different ways to read a pattern when you are crocheting.

One is to follow written instructions, a bit like a recipe, starting at step 1 and continuing on.

The other is to follow a pattern diagram where images are used to represent stitches, this type of pattern is great for more visual learners.

Find which ever method works for you!

In the tabs below are an example of a pattern for a simple crochet headband using the two different types of patterns, and a video to help explain.

How to crochet a basic head band

This is an easy headband to crochet for a beginner.

Video sourced from Myth and Yarn

Written pattern for headband:

1. Slip knot to start and chain 9 stitches.

2. Turn your work and go back along your foundation chain, inserting one single crochet into each stitch.  You should have 8 stitches.  Now chain 1 stitch, this is your turning chain.  (By adding a chain stitch at the end of each row, you will keep your rows nice and straight and uniform.)

3. Single crochet into each stitch along (8 stitches).  Chain 1 and turn your work.

4.  Keep going along as in row 3, adding 8 stitches at a time plus 1 turning chain at the end of each row.

Pause to measure the number of rows you will need to make your headband the perfect fit.  When you are happy with the length of your headband, you can fasten off the yarn, leaving a tail to sew the two ends of the head band together.

Finished!
